Winged Thunderbolt Trophy

42 Expeditionary Support Wing is a wing of the Royal Air Force based at RAF Wittering. Its purpose is to provide high readiness specialist engineering support for air operations all around the world and it is from these people that the winners of The Winged Thunderbolt trophy are found.
The winner of the trophy can be an individual or a team, it doesn't matter as long as they can produce excellence at the drop of a hat which can only be achieved with the skills acquired from a lot of training and practice.

About the trophy winners names board.

This honours board measures 1200mm X 800mm but there are no standard sizes, you can have them made to any size that want.
The edges of the board are veneered before dyeing the wood to colour and finishes with four coats of spray applied lacquer.

Squadron Badges, Logos and Emblems.

Further down the page you'll see the badge of 42 Support Wing.
It is a very high quality reproduction and not to be confused the more typical digital print and cut option.
The colours are applied as continuous tone, not in dots per inch which however high never compare in depth of colour.
Although adding to the cost, it will pay great results as time goes by as it should look just as good twenty or thirty years into the future.

Engraved Brass Plaques.

Scrolling yet further down the page you'll see an example of an engraved brass plaque.
These are available should you wish to add a dedication or personal sentiment to an honours board.

Timber Colour Samples

If you order an honours board from us you will receive a range of colour samples so that you can accurately assess the final colour of your finished board. Looking at wood colours on screen or in print can only give you an indication of the finished colour.

Other Colour Considerations

If you choose to use glass or Perspex for your honours board, shown elsewhere on this website, you will need to consider the colour of the wall behind it; the colour needs to contrast with the colour of lettering so that it's easy to read.

Reproduction & Restoration

We have become quite expert over the years in repairing and restoring honour boards but sometimes the time/cost involved is so great that it's better to start again and create a reproduction of an original honours board.
