West Midlands Police Memorial Honours Board

Originally made and supplied by us in 2012, this roll of honour memorial honours board records the names of police officers who have died whilst serving with police forces in the Midlands area of the United Kingdom.

Titled 'Lest We Forget', the roll of honour was commisioned by the West Midlands Police Force which was formed in 1974 following the amalgamation of six other regional police forces.

The board lists the other regional forces thus:
"West Midlands Police and the former constituent forces of Wolverhampton Night Watch, Birmingham City Police,
Coventry City Police, Dudley Borough Police, Wolverhampton Borough Police, and West Midlands Constabulary."

The first name recorded was a member of the Wolverhampton Night Watch who died in 1822, following that the names displayed were members of the Birmingham City Police dating from 1872.

The overall dimensions of the roll of honour are 2316mm wide X 1148mm high. An oak veneered panel is
glued and screwed into a solid oak frame which is mostly 45mm deep with the capping piece being 70mm deep.

Finished with four coats of Morrells lacquer front, the lettering is produced from Florentine Gold metalised vinyl.

This memorial board displays the names with details of their rank, age and date of death.

There is no single, established way of presenting the names and other information on a memorial board,
this is most heavily influenced by the information available to the compiler of the names
and the space available on the board without making the lettering too small to be easily read at some distance.

Whatever the wording on the board and however it is arranged or prioritised the only aspect of it that really matters is that the information is accurate.
If you intend to commission an honours board similar to this and can provide us with the relevant wording, names and dates
we will produce accurate scaled visuals and suggest layouts with possible alternatives.
